The amount of anglers traveling to France on a yearly basis in search of big carp has increased dramaticaly over the last few years, to the extent that some only fishing France nowadays. Commercial holiday venues
This category covers all lakes that have been purchased and are managed as venues for carp fishing holidays. They can be on a drive and survive or all inclusive package. As it sounds, drive yourself means the emphasis is on the individual to make their own way to the lake whereas all inclusive fishing packages can be either collection from a certain pre arranged location in the UK or a drive yourself and all food is catered for or even fly and collect i.e. the onsite staff collect your from an airport, provide most if not all of the tackle, food and guidance, these are classed as carp fishing holidays. Private lakes in France and Belgium
These aint too dissimilar to UK owned French venues except they are private lakes owned by the French and ran as fisheries. The difference being they are often a pay on arival, some however do allow reservations. Generally speaking they cost less than English owned commercial lakes. Some of these venues have become well known for the very big carp that some contain, Rainbow lake falls into this category as does Etang 5, both of which have produced carp over 70 lbs, these can also be classed as a holiday however some anglers dont class these types of lakes as holidays but an enduring session in pursuit of large carp, a number of English tour companies take reservations for French owned venues. Public Lakes & Rivers in France & Europe
Pulic lakes are owned by the French authorities and include some of the largest venues you are likely to fish, included in this category is the famed Orient, Chanty and the big rivers such as the Seine, Mosselle and Lot. The licence to fish these can be purchased from many tackle shops or post offices and is known as a carte de peche (licence to fish). This regional licence allows you to fish for carp on a wide range of lakes and rivers in that region. Most anglers travelling from the Uk tend to embark on these venues once they have done the commercial lakes.
